Update 1: Laying the Foundation
I have tried to start a dev blog a few times in the past, and every time the project either fell apart or I drifted away from it as school, work, and everything else took over, but this time I want to commit to seeing it through because this game finally feels like something worth building all the way to the end. I have been a college student trying to create a full game for years, constantly exploring different systems and concepts, and even though I’ve restarted the project more than once, I feel more ready now than I ever have before, mostly because the direction of the game feels clear and the foundation is actually strong enough to build on.
Over the last few weeks I’ve been shaping the rules and building the core mechanics, slowly connecting all the ideas I’ve collected over the years into something organized that actually makes sense. The game mixes village building, unit control, resource management, and tactical combat, and I’m working hard to make every part feel connected in a way that pushes players to make smart choices without overwhelming them. I’m experimenting with mechanics that feel new to me and pairing them with concepts that already work well in other games, trying to create something that feels both familiar and different at the same time, and I honestly think I’m heading in a direction that feels exciting.
There are still systems I’m tuning, like how actions are limited per turn, how buildings promote and get protected, how defenders rotate between front and back positions, how evolving units fit into the pacing, and how the open market shapes each player’s path. All of these pieces are getting refined as I test them and look for the right amount of depth without slowing down the game. I’ll reveal more about these mechanics as I finalize each part, since I want this dev log to grow naturally with the project instead of overwhelming it with details too early.
I’ve started blogs before, but this is the first time I feel like I’m entering the project with enough experience, enough structure, and enough focus to actually finish it, and writing this dev log is my way of holding myself accountable and documenting the journey from the very start. I’m excited, I’m motivated, and I want this to be the version that finally reaches the finish line.
More updates soon.
